Not if it’s done with the right product. Some sealers—especially the high-gloss ones—can create a slick surface when wet, which is a problem around pools. That’s why we don’t use those for pool decks.
We’re applying sealers with slip-resistant additives specifically designed for wet areas. You get the protection and the color enhancement without turning your pool deck into a safety hazard. If you’ve got textured pavers, that helps too—the sealer follows the surface texture and doesn’t fill it in.
If someone’s trying to sell you a super shiny finish for a pool deck, that’s a red flag. It might look good in photos, but it’s not practical. We’ve resealed plenty of pool decks in Brookridge where the previous company used the wrong product and the homeowner couldn’t walk on it safely after it rained. You want a matte or satin finish for anything near water.

If it rains during the curing process, that can mess things up, which is why we check the forecast before we start. We’re not sealing if there’s a storm coming. And if you’ve got an event or something scheduled, let us know up front so we can time it right. The last thing you want is a sealed driveway you can’t park on the day you need it.
They break down faster. Florida’s UV rays fade the color within a couple of years. The joints erode, weeds move in, and the pavers start shifting because there’s nothing holding the sand in place. Water gets underneath, and if you’ve got any kind of clay or unstable soil—which is common in parts of Brookridge—you’ll see settling and sinking.
You’ll also deal with stains that become permanent. Oil on a driveway, rust from patio furniture, organic stains from leaves and debris—all of that soaks into unsealed pavers. Once it’s in there, it’s not coming out without serious restoration work, and even then, it might not fully disappear.
